Canter takes out top award

Canter has been crowned Light Truck of the Year for 2017 by Light Commercial Vehicle magazine, beating its rivals following a comprehensive test drive and assessment process.

LCV publisher and experienced truck tester Trevor Woolston got behind the wheel of a five-speed manual 616 City Cab and put the truck through its paces.

The “slick-shifting” transmission was noted as a standout feature – “just like driving a car”. With max power and torque figures of 110kW and 370Nm, the “lively” 3.0L turbo-diesel engine was described as a “winner”.

While its on-road performance earned high praise, cab detailing and overall comfort also separated Canter from the competition.

The tough and versatile 33-strong Canter line-up has a GVM range from 4,983kg to 8,550kg to cover pretty much any light-duty application.

Almost every model has the option of DUONIC dual-clutch automated manual transmission – exclusive to Fuso – an ultra-efficient and economical system which helps to lower running costs and enable smooth, seamless gear changes.

Fuso NZ general manager Kurtis Andrews said the award echoes customer feedback.

“Our half-year Canter sales increased by 186 units compared to 2016, and Fuso has been New Zealand’s most popular light-truck brand for 2017 by a long shot,” said Kurtis. “Winning this award is a fantastic result and testament to the excellent value, proven reliability and continuing adaptability of our light-duty range.”
